Projects
The teaching staff and the experts in “Projects, Innovations and business relations” office in the European Polytechnical University has extensive experience in the preparation and implementation of various educational, technological, research and scientific projects.
The University has established partnerships with a number of private and public bodies at a national level and international level, representatives from the business sector and foreign universities.
The high professionalism, combined with an individual approach to each client and partner, ensures maximum preparation of quality projects and optimization of financial grants in order to ensure sustainable long-term results.
Project management is a package of principles, practices, and techniques that apply to the conduction of the “Project” team; control of the schedule of the project proposal; the price; Foreseeing the risks, in order to achieve effective results.
European Polytechnical University provides expert support at several stages:
- Preliminary analysis - an analysis of the client activities and the initial project idea, gathering information and preparing the feasibility study (if necessary) to clarify the specific project objectives and expected results.
- Preparation of project proposal - preparation of all project documentation as required by the Contracting Agency (business plan, application form, budget, logical framework and all the necessary applications and justifications).
- Project Management - providing technical and administrative assistance to the client during project implementation, as required by the funding program (preparation of tender documentation, preparation of technical and financial reports on the program, preparation of documents for filing of advances, interim and final payments on the project, etc.).
Telecontrolled Service Robots for Increasing the Quality of Life of Elderly and Disabled
Project № DN 07/23-15.12.2016 “TELECONTROLLED SERVICE ROBOTS FOR INCREASING THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF ELDERLY AND DISABLED” is funded by National Science Fund
Telecontrolled Service Robots for Increasing the Quality of Life of Elderly and Disabled is a large-scale scientific research project intended for the research of a high-technology robotic system which will be a personal assistant of the elderly and disabled people in their homes improving the quality of their life.
Telecontrolled Service Robots will be improved and will be created new methods and approaches for control of service robots, enabling them to improve the quality of life of elderly and disabled.
By conducting fundamental research in the field of systems for localization and navigation, technical vision, manipulation of objects using an anthropomorphic robotic arm, control of the sensors and telecommunication.
According to the statistics data of United Nations in the average population of EU of about 430 million citizens aged over 65 were as follows:
1970 - 56 million
1980 - 60.82 million
1990- 65,38 million
2000- 75,87 million
2010 - 86,50 million
The UN prognoses are as follows:
2020- 101,33 million
2030 - 118,68 million
Aging of the population and respectively increasing the number of people with mobility difficulties cannot be served anymore only by social assistants and caregivers and society will be forced to apply automation and robotization for the support of elderly and disabled citizens.
By the data from the International Federation of Robotics in the period of 2015-2018 they will be produced about 35 millions of new service robots for personal use and they will be installed about 8100 robots-assistants for the support of elderly and disabled people.
These serious numbers are stipulating the necessity for the realization of fundamental research in the field of service robots for the increasing of the quality of life for elderly and disabled people.
For the fulfillment of the goals of this project they will be performed the following fundamental tasks:
- Realization of research on the systems for localization and navigation of Telecontrolled device robots;
- Research on the systems of technical sight (vision) for the identification and classification of objects by using stereo- cameras for the Telecontrolled Service Robots;
- Research on the mechanics and control systems for the anthropomorphic robotic arms for manipulation of objects by Telecontrolled service robots;
- Research on the control systems for sensors and sensory systems of the telecontrolled service robots;
- Research on the methods and means for the realization of the Telecommunications for the Telecontrolled service robots;
- Research on the user-interfaces for the telecontrolled service robots.
During the course of the project, they will be conducted real tests of telecontrolled service robots installed in the homes of elderly and disabled,
The Telecontrolled service robots will help elderly and disabled people in their daily activities as for example:
- Motivate them to perform independently more activities and tasks and by this will contribute to their more active and healthy way of living.
- Remind them when to take medication.
- Serve foods and drinks.
- Switch on/off their electronic and electric equipment.
- Alarm on eventual worsening of their health parameters and will contact their GP, relatives, and friends or will contact with the First-Aid.

Student Internship
The Student Internship Project is carried out in partnership with all 51 higher education institutions in Bulgaria established under the Higher Education Act. The project envisages practical training opportunities for over 60,000 students. Participation is open to all full-time, part-time and distance learning students on the Registry of Current and Dormant Undergraduate and Graduate Students maintained by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Science. Required practical training duration is 240 hours in a real business environment. Upon successful completion and documentation of training, students are paid a stipend in the amount of BGN 480.
All students have the right to participate in the Student Internship Project one time at every degree level of higher education, i.e. once as Bachelor’s degree students, once as Master’s degree students. The project envisages remuneration for academic advisors in universities and mentors (supervisors) in hosting companies.
The project budget is BGN 56,000,000.
