Program Description

The Bachelor’s program in Green Energetics is an engineering-focused curriculum with an environmental emphasis, designed to address key aspects of energy efficiency and alternative energy sources for sustainable development. The program centers on research, design, and operation of energy-efficient and eco-friendly systems and equipment. Students explore diverse alternative energy sources such as solar, wind, water, geothermal, biomass, hydrogen technology, photovoltaic, and ocean streams, along with cutting-edge technologies in their generation. Additionally, students gain knowledge in optimizing energy consumption in lighting, transportation, household and industrial drives, heating, air conditioning, and the construction of environmentally-friendly structures. The entire program is taught in English.

The specialty’s objective is to educate highly qualified engineers capable of pursuing professional development in the dynamic and promising field of energy, with a specific focus on modern energy technology, renewable energy, and energy efficiency. Graduates are equipped to assume roles as designers, planners, consultants, experts, private entrepreneurs, scientists, teachers, and representatives of governmental, municipal, and non-governmental organizations. They are prepared to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing natural and economic landscape, with the ambitious goal of making energy affordable, safe, and environmentally sustainable.

The program covers general engineering subjects as foundational knowledge, including Mathematics, Physics, Green Chemistry, Basics of Economics, European Values and Culture, Informatics, Electrical Engineering, Introduction to Construction and CAD Systems, Mechanics, Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer, Material Science, European Policies and Standards, Fluid Mechanics, Electrical Machines and Operations, Electroenergetics, Electrical Apparatuses and Installations, Measurement Technics, and Fundamentals in Energy Management, Solar energetics.

Specialized Preparation:

Students gain in-depth knowledge in specialized subjects, including but not limited to:

Elective courses allow students to pursue additional specialization in areas like Solar Energy, Biomass and Biofuels, Hydrogen Technology and Fuel Cell, Green Buildings and Energy Efficiency (in conjunction with the Civil Engineering program), and Economic aspects of Renewable Energy Sources. This flexibility ensures graduates are well-prepared for specific career paths within the field of Green Energy.

Additionally, graduates will have acquired modern management and economic theories, an understanding of energy management specifics, knowledge of European policies and standards, and familiarity with national and European patent legislation and intellectual property protection. They will be adept at formulating and implementing strategies, energy business plans, programs, and projects, as well as utilizing the best available technology.

Furthermore, graduates will have developed the ability to apply engineering solutions to challenges related to renewable energy sources, employing appropriate methods for modeling, simulation, and optimization in various renewable energy contexts. They will possess the skills to analyze and evaluate projects concerning renewable and conventional energy sources from energy, economic, and construction perspectives. Graduates will excel in interdisciplinary and international problem-solving as part of a team, drawing on economic and political considerations. Moreover, they will effectively apply their theoretical knowledge and practical experience to address real-world challenges. Graduates will be proficient in formulating goals and strategies, developing plans, programs, and projects, and contributing to the development of corporate, regional, and national energy strategies. They will demonstrate the ability to establish productive partnerships with stakeholders in Bulgaria and abroad, effectively plan and organize their careers, and independently utilize a variety of scientific and practical information sources.

The European System of Credit Transfer (ECTS) is applied, ensuring the recognition of students’ coursework acquired at other universities. ECTS promotes transparency and facilitates constructive relationships between institutions, expanding students’ opportunities in their research direction choices. The system allows for straightforward recognition of students’ achievements through conventional credits and assessments.
